During her short visit to Hong Kong, we caught Bobbi Brown for a few minutes at The Upper House, to chat about the holidays, gifting, and the dos and don’t of glitter.

What is the best gift you’ve ever received?
One year, my husband gave me three frames with the first pictures ever taken of each of my three sons.  Obviously, they are very sentimental to me.

What are your favourite products to give?

I’m a fan of giving palettes in a multitude of colors and textures for eyes, lips and cheeks – just stay away from bold, bright colors that might not work on everyone’s skin tone.  A lip palette is always appreciated because you can mix the colors together to create numerous shades.

Is glitter during the holidays a do or a don’t?

Contrary to popular belief, glittery makeup isn’t just for teens or parties. Strategically applied, it can make you look fresh and lit-from-within. Simply sweep sparkly shadow across your lower lids or top your everyday lipstick with glittery gloss.

What is a must for this year’s holiday looks?

Red lipstick is a holiday staple and an easy way to make your everyday look festive. It’s a look — despite what you may think — that anyone can pull off. To find your perfect red, think about your style and the kind of statement you want to make, then find a shade you feel comfortable wearing. If you want a subtle look: Choose a super sheer red (picture your lips after eating a popsicle) lip gloss or lip stain. Try pinkish ruby-red if you’re fair skin-skinned, wine-red if you have a medium complexion, and deep burgundy if you have a dark complexion.

Who is your most memorable holiday dinner guest?
There’s nothing better than spending the holidays with my husband and three sons. Now that my two eldest sons are away in college, holidays are extremely special. It’s a time when the whole family can be together.  I usually invite everyone over for a big dinner.
